Thomas Langlois Lefroy ( January 8 of 1776 - May 4 of 1869) was a political and judge Irish. He was the eldest son of Colonel Anthony Peter Lefroy of Limerick (born in 108 George St, Limerick, now O'Connell St) and Anne Gardiner. Lefroy's family comes from the city of Cambrai in the northwest corner of France. They were a Huguenot family and one of its heads of the family, the L'Offroy Lord, died in battle of Agincourt in 1415 .
In 1796, Lefroy began a flirtation with the English novelist Jane Austen , who was a friend of an old relative of his . Jane Austen wrote two letters to her sister Cassandra citing "Tom Lefroy" but there seems to have been a serious relationship. However, it is possible that it was he who Austen had in mind when he invented the character Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice - Darcy is well known and a name distinguished in Ireland at the moment with legal connections and barony of a family could cross the line of women.
